Introduction to Personal Awareness and Self-Mastery
Sandbox Courses

Personal Awareness and Self-Mastery is a reflective and practical learning module designed to help Agricultural Extension Workers (AEWs) better understand themselves, their behaviors, and the mental models that influence how they perceive people, situations, and their work. The course emphasizes that effective agricultural extension is not only technical but also personal and behavioral.

The course explores four key areas: Mental Models, Self-Discovery, Self-Awareness, and Redefining the Self. Learners will examine how their beliefs, experiences, assumptions, and perceptions shape their decisions, communication, relationships, and performance. It also introduces psychological makeup through IQ, personality, and emotional intelligence; explores the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) and mindset; and discusses being proactive and coachable, developing a personal legacy and brand, and practicing self-reflection.

Through interactive activities and reflection exercises, learners are encouraged to identify their strengths, talents, passions, dreams, defining experiences, and personal roadblocks. The module ultimately aims to strengthen self-awareness and self-management, helping learners become more intentional in their actions, communication, professional image, and leadership.

Herb Production, Processing, and Utilization
Sandbox Courses

Welcome to the world of herbs!

Botanists describe an herb as a small, seed-bearing plant with fleshy, rather than woody, parts (from which we get the term "herbaceous"). In addition to herbaceous perennials, herbs include trees, shrubs, annuals, vines, and more primitive plants, such as ferns, mosses, algae, lichens, and fungi.

Herbs are valued for their flavor, fragrance, medicinal and healthful qualities, economic and industrial uses, pesticidal properties, and coloring materials (dyes). With its easy propagation and different uses, herbs will surely be of great benefit in your home and could be a source of extra income too.

This course is designed for individuals who are already producing or would be producing herbs, be it for home use or even for entrepreneurial purposes.

The course has three modules that cover production, processing, and utilization. Here, you will be able to learn the different medicinal herbs found within your locality and their uses for specific illnesses.

Explore, learn, and have a tour of a world where prevention is better through the help of herbal plants.

Adlay adds Life: Adlay Production and Product Development
Sandbox Courses

When you hear words “adds life”, what automatically comes into your mind?

Is it Food? Nutrition? Medicine?

Well, Adlay can give you all of that! Adlay is a promising crop due to its potential as food sources. It can be a substitute to rice and other rice-based kakanin

As one of the traditional staple food, some farmers have opted to grow Adlay because it thrives in adverse conditions, it is more nutritious and it has medicinal attributes. Adlay, also known as Job's Tears, comes from the Poaceae or the grasses, the same family that wheat, corn, and rice belonged.

Farmers reported that Adlay has good eating quality, it produces good yield, it grows well in sloping areas, it has resistant to pests and it can tolerate low pH, poor soil and waterlogging. You can plant Adlai once and can harvest 2-3 times.

Biogas Technology
Sandbox Courses

Biogas typically refers to a mixture of different gases produced by the breakdown of organic matter in the absence of oxygen. It can be produced from raw materials such as agricultural waste, manure, municipal waste, plant material, sewage, and green waste or food waste.

Historically, biogas technology was already implemented by the Bureau of Animal Industry (BAI) since 1970’s. They continued to develop the technology and implemented several units of biogas digesters nationwide.

Course Objectives:

At the end of this course, you should be able to:

·         Discuss Biogas and its importance and principles;

·         Identify the different Biogas Digester;

·         Explain how biogas work, its uses, and its advantages

·         Describe how to install the Biogas digester; and

·         Determine its economic benefits

Cassava Production
Sandbox Courses

If humans have super heroes, the plant kingdom have super crops. Of all the plant species, root crops truly deserve the moniker as super crops as their economic and benefits can never be underestimated. One of these root crops is cassava (Manihot esculenta Crantz) from the Family Euphorbiaceae. According to Mariscal (nd), common names of cassava include kamoteng-kahoy, balinghoy, balanghoy, kamanting, Elorde, and kalibre. Cassava is a perennial plant which is treated as an annual crop.

Cassava is considered as a super crop because it can grow in areas where other crops may have difficulties in growing. It can survive long dry spell after 3 months of establishment. It is also tolerant to shading and can accumulate more carbohydrates per unit time than any other crops (Mariscal, 2016). Furthermore, it can be used as food and ingredient in various food products and animal feeds. It is also a major component in the manufacture of industrial products such as starch and ethanol.

Because of its numerous uses, the demand for cassava has dramatically increased.  For 2014, the Philippines produced almost 80,000 metric tons of cassava with an average of 4.8 metric tons/ha/cropping (PhilRootcrops, 2016). However, these statistics do not fully satisfy the demand for the crop as there is a low supply of cassava roots.

This course will show you the recommended cultural management practices for cassava to ensure good produce for higher economic returns. The information presented in this course are results from researches conducted by PhilRootcrops, Visayas State University, and the Department of Agriculture.
